April 16-17: Five weekend classes available

April 16-17 is a busy weekend at Brookfield Craft Center! Take your pick of a unique class in fiber arts, glass, jewelry making, blacksmithing, or woodturning… there’s something here to suit your fancy.

Introduction to Jewelrymaking: April 6 – May 11

This 6-week course, open to anyone, teaches the basic skills of jewelry making. Focusing on the art of fabricating with copper and silver metals, students will be guided through all steps from design to completion of a piece of jewelry. Topics covered include the properties of various metals, basic tools and their uses, and studio safety

Gemstones on Beach Stones

This is elegant jewelry making on a serious budget. Jewelry makers with some experience can learn this technique from Leslie Hartwell.  It uses minimal amounts of silver, saving money. Want it to be fancier? Add a faceted stone or two!  April 9 – 10; click to register.  

Try an Evening Class!

Weekends not your thing? Why not try one of these evening classes that BCC is offering in the weeks ahead. After you’ve spent a day at work, treat yourself to learning the skills of a craft artist: discover mold making in ceramic and glass, or how to solder metal to create fine jewelry.

Ceramics for the Gardener

In this fun 4 week class, students will work on garden related projects of their choice while learning new skills in ceramics. Planters, vases, bird houses and baths, plant markers and garden sculpture are some possible projects; bring your ideas to life in stoneware. 4 Tuesday evenings, March 1 – 22, 6p – 9p.

Fundamentals of Blacksmithing

Students interested in blacksmithing will gain a working knowledge of the fundamentals in this enjoyable weekend workshop. Basic techniques will be covered, including use of tools, safety, the forge, controlling a fire, reading the temperature of the metals, and shaping. Special emphasis will be placed on gaining a solid foundation of hammer techniques and use, handling hot steel and fire control. Saturday/Sunday, March 5 – 6, 10a – 4p.
