Pottery Studio
Matt Denning

Matt’s lifelong passion for working with clay began in 1978 when he attended the youth summer program at Brookfield Craft Center. He went on to become deeply involved in the ceramics program at Brookfield High School, where he developed his skills and established his first home studio at the age of 17.

Although Matt initially considered pursuing ceramics as a career, he chose to attend culinary school instead. While building a successful career in the food service industry, he never stepped away from his passion for pottery, maintaining a fully equipped ceramics studio with a focus on functional stoneware.

Over the years, Matt has created handcrafted work for restaurants and retail stores throughout New York City and Connecticut. Today, he operates Red Mill Pottery, located at the historic Red Mill in Bridgewater, Connecticut. His studio is equipped with both a wood-fired kiln and a gas reduction kiln, allowing him to produce distinctive, high-quality functional ceramics using a variety of traditional firing techniques.
