A Moment in Time: the Painting, Enamel Work and Jewelry of Joanne Conant
Brookfield, CT – June 6, 2016 – The Brookfield Craft Center’s Studio Gallery will open a new exhibit by Newtown artist and educator Joanne Conant with an opening reception July 16, 2016, from 5-8 pm. The exhibit will continue through August 6.
Conant, a frequent teacher and the former enameling studio manager at the Brookfield Craft Center, built her expertise as an apprentice for over 20 years with enamellist Margaret Seeler. Conant’s enameling techniques include Cloisonné, Plique-a-jour, Champleve, Grisaille, Limoges and Fauré. Conant fabricates a variety of metal objects such as boxes, pendants, brooches and plaques to hold her enameled pieces. The Craft Center exhibit will also feature her talents in oil painting and jewelry.
In addition to apprentice work in enameling, Conant’s education includes a Commercial Arts Degree from the Minneapolis Technical Institute and study since 2007 in oil painting with master painter Ira Barkoff at the Washington Art Association. Conant has been the recipient of several national and international awards for her enamels and paintings. Her work has appeared in numerous publications, and the Tucson Museum of Art holds one of her enameled boxes in their permanent collection. The artist’s statement about her painting includes: “I hope to capture a moment in time that will express the emotional bond I have with the view; clouds moving with the wind, waves in constant motion, the solidity of rock and the tranquility of trees and landscape.”
The community is invited to join in welcoming this admired local artist to the Brookfield Craft Center at the opening reception on Saturday, July 16, from 5-8pm in the Lynn Tendler Bignell Gallery, located at 286 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, CT. Refreshments will be served.
