In its ongoing effort to preserve and improve its facilities, the Craft Center is proud to announce that with the support of the community, the iconic and historic Brookfield Mills sign on its main building has been fully restored. A dedication ceremony to present the work to the community will be held Thursday, November 10 at 9:30 a.m.
“It has been almost 20 years since it was last painted,” recalled Howard Lasser the Craft Center’s Executive Director. “We recognize the historical significance of this effort. The sign represents a key part of Brookfield’s agrarian history. We are so pleased that the community has been so generous, supporting our effort to preserve a part of the town’s history,” said Lasser.
In addition to this update, the Craft Center has begun to expand its Blacksmith Forge and is anticipating work on its historic Miller House. “We recognize we need to repair and maintain our facilities to continue to provide our excellent programs that preserve fine craftsmanship and continue to build a sense of community through the arts” said Board of Directors Chairman, Mark Zerbe. “We are so thankful that everyone came together to support the campaign.” said Zerbe.
Maintaining the community focus of the campaign, the Craft Center was happy to retain the talents of local sign painter, Dan McKee to restore the sign as well as Steve Turco who painted the background. The Craft Center was able to raise $8,825.00 as a result of its appeal to the community, just $125.00 shy of its full fundraising goal. An early contribution from Brookfield Village LLC kicked off the campaign. Additional contributions have been received from:
