Danbury High School Senior Art Students Showcase
Exceptional Talent at Brookfield Craft Center
Brookfield, CT – March 28 – The artistic talents of two exceptional Danbury High School senior art students will be on full display at a special exhibition hosted by the Brookfield Craft Center from April 5 – April 20 entitled ‘As You Are: Moments in Time’. The students, Danbury High
School seniors Kaylan Alexander and Samuel Ramirez, have spent years honing their artistic craft under the guidance of Danbury High School art teacher Leslie Mroczek. Through this curated collection, Kaylan and Samuel explore their feelings of amalgamation, capturing the fluid and ever-unfolding nature of identity, stating “As long as we live, grow, and connect with others, we will never be a complete portrait but rather a world of influences, experiences, and stories woven into one body and mind.”
Kaylan’s talent has been recognized through multiple prestigious awards, including 3rd place in the 2024 CT 5th District’s Congressional Art Show, where her work, Perpetual Work in Progress, is displayed at the Mattatuck Museum. She also received an Honorable Mention at
the 2023 CT Scholastic Art Show, a Gold award in the Digital category at the 2024 CT Scholastic Art Show, and National Silver medal in the Digital category at 2024 Scholastic Art Awards, and Best in Show at the 2024 Brookfield Craft Center’s ‘Artists on the Rise Student Art Show.’
Sam’s dedication to his craft has also earned him recognition, including Honorable Mention at the 2024 Richter Art Show and Honorable Mention at the 2024 Scholastic Art Awards for the Senior Portfolio category.
“This show is an incredible opportunity for our students to share their artistic voices with the community,” said Mroczek. “Their work deserves to be seen and appreciated, and we are thrilled to partner with Brookfield Craft Center to make this event possible.”
“For the past four years, I have had the privilege of watching these students grow as artists through their participation in our ‘Artists on the Rise’ juried exhibition for high school aged artists. I am excited to see the culmination of their high school work in this upcoming show,” said Jillian Doherty, Gallery Manager at Brookfield Craft Center.
The exhibition is made possible through the generous support of local organizations including iLLiNK Printers and the Jordan Foundation in Danbury, and Danbury Grass Roots Academy. Their support plays a vital role in fostering young artistic talent and ensuring that students have the resources needed to present their work professionally.
The opening reception will take place on April 5, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Brookfield Craft Center, located at 286 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, CT. The public is invited to attend and celebrate the achievements of these young artists. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served.
