Try an Evening Class!

Weekends not your thing? Why not try one of these evening classes that BCC is offering in the weeks ahead. After you’ve spent a day at work, treat yourself to learning the skills of a craft artist: discover mold making in ceramic and glass, or how to solder metal to create fine jewelry.

Ceramics for the Gardener

In this fun 4 week class, students will work on garden related projects of their choice while learning new skills in ceramics. Planters, vases, bird houses and baths, plant markers and garden sculpture are some possible projects; bring your ideas to life in stoneware. 4 Tuesday evenings, March 1 – 22, 6p – 9p.

Fundamentals of Blacksmithing

Students interested in blacksmithing will gain a working knowledge of the fundamentals in this enjoyable weekend workshop. Basic techniques will be covered, including use of tools, safety, the forge, controlling a fire, reading the temperature of the metals, and shaping. Special emphasis will be placed on gaining a solid foundation of hammer techniques and use, handling hot steel and fire control. Saturday/Sunday, March 5 – 6, 10a – 4p.

3-Day Jewelrymaking Intensive Workshop

If your schedule doesn’t permit you to commit to a class of 6-weekly sessions, then this intensive 3-day workshop is for you. Students will explore the art of jewelry design and metalsmithing from start to finish. Topics covered include design considerations, the various metals used in jewelry, basic metalsmithing tools and their uses. Thursday through Saturday, March 10-12.

May 7: Spend a Full Day with Jimmy Clewes

Brookfield Craft Center is pleased to welcome legendary woodturner Jimmy Clewes to our turning studio for a full-day demo. Jimmy will share his outstanding techniques with turning enthusiasts, and allow them to get an up-close look at his bag of tricks on the lathe. Lunch is included during a mid-day break. Saturday, May 7 9a – 5p: space is limited to 25 participants.
